Years ago, when the kids were just wee babies and toddlers, I would brood at home while hearing of the amazing live music being played in towns around me. You would not believe the hoops I had to jump to see The Beastie Boys live (finally!) in 2004. I had to book a babysitter, pump breastmilk for weeks and tell Alex that bottles were awesome for a good two weeks!
I longed for the day when I would have a decent amount of freedom to travel and plan to enjoy music as I truly enjoy it heard. Live.
While I'm still at the mercy of work, soccer and piano lessons, with a certain amount of planning, I can finally see most of the acts I fancy.
As I've told you, on May 29 four of my girls and I are headed to New York City not only to experience Glee, but Radio City Music Hall - something that has always been a dream of mine. We return May 31 and while I doubt I can swing it without a good deal of cajoling or promises of good behavior, I just found out The Avett Brothers are going to be in Toronto on June 2. I'm actually considering using a vacation week, and my begging powers, to make this happen. (Editor's note: there is no way this will happen!)
Westfest is mid-June and I don't know if you heard the crazy shouting and screaming from where you are, but Sloan is performing the Saturday night. Sloan is my absolute favourite Canadian band and second only to the Beastie Boys as my all-time favourite. We saw them live last year at The Live Lounge and it was an excellent show. I absolutely cannot wait. Outside. In June. Flip flops and dancing? This is bliss to me.
In the weeks following there will be Bluesfest, The Black Eyed Peas and lord only knows who else. I think I will be one happy girl by September, don't you?
